How bad is it and how nice do you want your bumpers? You could sand the rust out and touch up with silver or chrom paint or you can take them off and send them to a rechromer. Have any pics? Looks like you have a nice early Spider!

Just trying to make my car a nice looking driver, not a show queen.
The front bumper is in nice shape.
The drivers side rear needs a little sanding and refinishing but the passenger side needs professional help!

The attachment points of these old bumpers are the weak spot. Any hit on the over-riders is transmitted to the bumper. Small (0.25") perforations can be repaired by brazing; larger holes will require welding or brazing a backing plate prior to filling with brass. Then off to the plater. I kept the over-riders on the rear, but on the front, I filled in the holes for a cleaner, 60's look. Your photos seem to show a salvageable bumper. Try to get the bumper repaired separately from replating, even if it means an extra trip to the same shop. You'll want to ensure proper fitment to your mounts before having it plated, as it is difficult to tweak a finished part. Ironically, nows the best time to get this done. Plating shops are busiest in the winter, when everybody is dismantling and restoring cars and motorcycles.

Hey Baltobernie, the mounting brackets on the bumpers are good, I did, however, have to fix the mounting post attached to the car. I'll take a trip out to find out how much the rear bumpers will cost to fix versus trying to find nice condition used bumpers. I got a good price on getting the car painted so she's gone for the next few days.

Re: Any tips on fixing rust spots on early chrome bumpers
I just bought a pair of rear bumpers from another member. If anyone wants to salvage mine they are welcome to have the rear bumpers for free, just pay shipping. Note that I am going to retain one of the rear bumper brackets for the new set I have coming.
Thanks,
