Hi,
I have changed the cams in my car and added adjustable timing wheels. After assembling everything and taking the car for a spin around the block, I noticed that the cam belt is riding on the forward edge of the wheels. I doesn't matter what I do, the belt finds its happy spot on the edge. Refer photos.

It shouldn't go anywhere with the raised edges on the cam pullies.

i recall my 1608, the belts was on the edge too. i did think that was odd

That is the belts"preferred" position That is where mine likes to end up as well. Nothing to worry about.

So I've rebuilt the engine and cranked it over. All good, however the cam belt is finding its home on the other side of the pulleys this time. Its hanging over the aux pulley by about 2mm. I installed a new idler pulley on a different bracket, to no avail. Issue persists. I chalked the cam belt and cranked again. There does not appear to be any scrubbing.
Thoughts? :scratch: I read somewhere about shimming the back of the tensioner pulley.
ps. Out of curiosity, how would do you torque the aux pulley bolt in situ? Easy to lock the shaft with the sump off and on a stand.

The belt will walk forward and rearward naturally. The raised edges (forward on the exhaust cam, rearward on the intake) will keep it on the pulley. No need to do anything except ensure the belt has the proper tension on it.
