How many miles on your Spider?
Re: How many miles on your Spider?
Since my car is a total restoration. I would love to change the miles to zero. Then it would easy to know what I put on it.
Since you never know about mileage anyways.

57K original miles, but there isn't much "original" left after my complete resto-mod. 673 miles post restoration.

Re: How many miles on your Spider?
I was told my 81 Spider had 136K Kms on it (I am in Canada) when I bought it last October, but there is no way to know since the odometer only goes to 99.999Km before turning over. Is there a way to check how many times it has passed '0'?

Re: How many miles on your Spider?
I think Fiat was intending that the cars wouldn't last that long???? I don't knowor sure, but general wear and tear is a give away, etc rips in seats, very worn suspension, condition of worn steering wheel generally how tired the car look and performs, however the speedo is easily changed so who knows if it is original????dmowbray wrote:I was told my 81 Spider had 136K Kms on it (I am in Canada) when I bought it last October, but there is no way to know since the odometer only goes to 99.999Km before turning over. Re: How many miles on your Spider?
My 1980 Spider has 53,000 original miles. I purchased it with 46,700 from the original owner. My other 1980 Spider has had the odometer changed (By me. I like the 140mph odometer) and is around 63,000 miles. No idea what the actual milage is.
Re: How many miles on your Spider?
mine reads 84,000miles....but as its a 1969 Im pretty sure its rolled over at least once! In saying that......its been sitting in a field since 1985, so maybe not!
Re: How many miles on your Spider?
well my 1980 orginal 80mph speedo reads 83k and the 140mph speedo reads 14,500 it came out of a 1980 as well. ( it has gone to the great spider grave yard. both Michigan "State" cars ; lol

Re: How many miles on your Spider?
My 1973 1800 has 85000 miles, (73000 when I got it). Pretty well verifiable from all the paperwork that came with it. A hand written diary by the first owner, including repairs, cost etc. and the various traffic tickets etc.of the second owner,a California student, who seemed to fall foul of the parking authorites on a daily basis. They eventually seized the car and sold it. It then found it's way to the UK where I restored it.

Re: How many miles on your Spider?
Thanks for that! My `77 had (if memory serves) about 76,000 when I bought it in `88. Now it is about to hit 120,000. But reading all this talk about multiple rounds of the odometer I had started wondering if mine was one the 3rd time around and not the 2nd. But reading the above I remembered that mine, too, had come with an envelope full of service stuff. Yea! 120,000 it is (and that's plenty thank you very much).GTO wrote:My 1973 1800 has 85000 miles, (73000 when I got it). Pretty well verifiable from all the paperwork that came with it. Still runs great. Weeps some oil but doesn't smoke. Starts immediately and idles well. Pulls hard. Winds up right to red line and seems to be willing to go yet higher. (I don't) All that from a 34 year old car that is occasionally mistaken for "new." (Not if one looks closely)
Sweet!

Re: How many miles on your Spider?
I bought the '82 in 2002 from the original owner in Norfolk, VA with 14,400 mi. on the clock. It now has 24,908. It spent a lot of the years between '82 and '02 in a trailer with mice chewing on the wiring and mud wasps making nests everywhere, like between the AC condenser and the radiator... they cut off the air flow to about 1/5 of the radiator with their "plaster job".
The PO didn't really want to sell the Fiat, but he had a pickup, a Cobra reproduction, a Z4, ATVs and several family cars. His wife said something had to go. So to maintain domestic harmony and tranquility ... and since he wasn't driving the Spider much at all anyway... he put it up for sale on eBay.

Re: How many miles on your Spider?
I have an 81 spider with 73,000. I bought it with 62,000 a few years ago. I am pretty sure it is the correct milage because everything is original parts, even the tires. They were dry rotted. It runs great! needs a little cosmetic work. The owner I bought it from had a Macco cheap paint job to sell it. It looks good but I see some rust popping.
