Texting and driving :(

Post by Kabong »

My baby got rear ended by some chick on her iphone. Thankfully, the light had changed and I had just started moving again when the *&%#$ hit me. The bumper's shock absorber was leaking oil but that seemed to be the only damage. Should I be looking for anything else other than replacing the shocks on the bumper?

Look for deformation in the area the shocks mount to in the trunk. You can see the bolts next to the gas tank and next to the spare tire.

This whole inability to just drive when in the driver's seat is utterly confounding to me. Its bad enough taking a phone call.

I know a guy parting out a 79 Spider. He has the rear bumper and shocks if you want them. He's in Northern California about 1/2 hour east of Sacramento. PM me if you want his contact info.

Sorry to hear about the accident. My brother-in-law just recently had his 1966 Mustang, 302, 4BBL, 4 Speed, all matching numbers, (a rare factory car per the appraiser), totalled in the same way. The girl hit him at 35 MPH when he was at a complete stop. Her words? "I didn't see you". Well DUH! You were on your #$%** phone texting someone.

I think the fine for texting while driving is insufficient to deter the practice. I believe that we need prohibit violators from owning a cell phone for two years and put them through mental health counseling. The majority of my clients under the age of 30 exhibit all the signs of clinical addiction when it comes to their cell phones. It makes me sick.

Sorry to hear about your car.

Man I tell you. I drive a Hazmat truck. All I ever see are people talking and texting on the phones. It's no wonder why they have made laws to try to deter people from using their cell phones. I even have noticed police officers talking on their phones while driving. Sorry this had happened to you.
If you need bumper shocks, I have them as well in NJ.

Sorry to hear about your accident! I have a bad habit of swerving toward people with horn blaring when I see them texting while driving. At least it gets their attention for a split second.

Sorry to see this happen to you. It's bad enough when you're driving a run of the mill toyota or the like,
but when it's your toy  !!

How about all states should take the drivers license away for a year and make these self absorbed divas ride public transportation. Then they can text/talk all they want.

I like the fact my new 500 has hands free blue tooth technology. I wonder if there's a way for manufacturers to cause the text message program to malfunction while the car is in motion or running?

Maybe what we really need is a better driver education and tougher licenseing. Sorry to hear about your ride.

But then, at least 3/4 of the drivers on the road wouldn't be able to get licenses.

Our Cheif of Police rear ended a car at a light because he was checking his email. He was looking at his phone when the car next to him started to move. He just started to go too without looking up but he was in the left turn lane and the car in front of him still had a red...BAM! Of course emergency vehicles are exempt. At least he made a public apology and admitted he made a mistake.

I remember as a lad having to fit surpressors to my spark plugs in order to cut out the static for the radio (valve job) Without them one had a strong static rising and falling with the revs which made listening almost impossible. Perhaps we could re-engineer that so that your mobile would not work until the engine was shut off. Would that be good or what !!!!
