AC system leak question.

The ac systems used the old style freon? Putting in the new version ie. recharging bottle from wally world would eat the o rings? The system used standard AC orings right,so I could just get them replaced and the system vacumed and recharged with the new version freon?
Sorry for all the Q's looking at a car that the AC worked but now doesn't and he thinks it leaked.

also replace the oil in the system and add the adapters to the charging ports. But, the downside is that R134 is now being phased out, and the price has tripled recently as well as incurring a core charge on each can. It puts the price at about $32/can for R134 now
