So my goal for the winter was to clean up the engine, and i certainly made an improvenment! It was a disaster but with the help of a few rust removers, steel wool pads, a couple cans of paint, and a heck of a lot of time... i finally an not as embaressed of the engine:) The first picture is my before pic and the second is the after pic. aj81spider Since it's my moms car and she didn't trust me that much with this project I wasn't allowed to take the engine out But I made do with the situation and painted everything while still in the engine. I just had to make sure everywhere I didn't want paint was taped up and covered up with newspaper. I few times I accidentally had overspray, but I was able to clean it up with some gasoline. I was able to take off the air cleaner because it looked simple enough and i just gave it a coat of black metallic gloss, and i got the overflow bottle out to clean it up some. I used krylon paint for the timing belt cover, high heat paint for the main bloc, and flame proof paint for the exhaust header. Now I feel 100% more comfortable with the engine and actually am getting to know my way around

if anyone is interested Rust-O-Leum has a "Sun Yellow"(in a spary can) that is almost a stock color for the yellow parts on the fan guard and fan. and if you degrease the engine block and let it dry .Rust-O-leum paint works good there to but not the spray, use the kind you paint with a brush for the block, ( yes it hold up great ! I have my 66 ford truck motor been driving almost daily for the last 4 years and still looks great.

Engine looks great. Where did you buy the braided radiator hose (IAP)? Also, I haven't seen anyone spray paint their distributor cap - it would make sense to paint this to match your color scheme - I've heard that if you tape off the outlets where you'll eventually re-insert the wires (so no new paint touches around the wire) that it would be okay - some one said that the paint attracks electricity and could cause interference - - can anyone confirm? Curious, because I'm in the process of detailing my engine as well and don't like the off-red standard distributor cap.
