Re: Your Day Job:
I am an industrial designer (another variation on that is product designer). I work for the largest office furniture maker in the world: Steelcase. In the past I designed the core of Dilbertville but have moved on to our healthcare group, Nurture. I now design seating, carts, nurse stations and anything else we decide to sell into the healthcare market.
I design what our product slook like and due to my technical nature often have a significant effect on how the product is made. I tend to work very closely with my engineers to great effect.
In the past I have created toys, point of purchase displays, Casio keyboards, calculators, vacuum cleaners and a variety of other consumer products. I originally went to school to design cars, became bored with it and moved to product design which is a bit less restrictive
I have been working at my current job for 17 years. Three kids and a lovely wife of nearly thirty years.

Re: Your Day Job:
Im a carpanter, not as boring as it sounds since I work the Los Angeles area. I never know where I gonna end up or what Im going to be installing. It gets real interesting at times. Ive worked on sets for t v shows, movies, Penthouse offices, Playboy offices, Usc, Ucla, Disneyland, Dodger stadium, Disney studios, Staples Center, Police stations and private studios. And many more odd places. Once I even went to Seals house to finish up some work in his private studio. It seems Im always having to buy new tools to do installs of things Ive never seen or done before. Ive only a couple years left to retire now. Lately Iv been able to work with my son alot, and thats kinda nice at times, and not so much at other times. Kids will always be kids.
Re: Your Day Job:
Right now, I am a university student in pursuit of my bachelor of commerce degree. A year and a half to go... before that, I spent 8 years as a buyer for Costco Canada. I'm currently looking for work while doing my schooling, but the two go hand in hand in the world of business . Thankfully my wife is a teacher (paid well in Canada) and she is very supportive of my return to school and of our little Fiat.
Re: Your Day Job:
For the last 7 years I have been doing kitchen and bath remodeling and indoor handyman when times are slow. To often times have been slow and even slower at times but I love to be my own boss.
Back in Germany I was a tool and dye maker.

Wow, what a varied and interesting group!
I'm mostly retired from the electronic components industry (website at left), after many miles and kilometers. Miss the camaraderie, but not hotel pillows, filthy rental cars, and standing in a TSA line at 6 AM. Kept a few customers; ones that pay on time, or are located in Santa Barbara, or are gearheads ....
Write an occasional column for an online car magazine http://www.carsandplaces.com/reviews/WAS2008.htm. Volunteer http://www.neighborride.org/AboutUs.php and collect hotel toiletries for our local homeless shelter.

Re: Your Day Job:
I started out working in the Canadian Armed Forces as a radar technician working on Air Traffic Control systems all over Canada and 5 great years in Germany. After 24 years of that I retired and moved to Saskatoon, where my wife is from. For the last 6 years I've been an electronics technician at Canada's only Synchrotron, the Canadian Light Source (http://www.lightsource.ca). The work here is very interesting and keeps all of us on our toes.
Working on my spider keeps me busy in the garage for the 6 months of non driving weather we get. The other six months is spent trying to get maximum time behind the wheel.

I am a Master Electrician, specializing in industrial facilities construction, machinery installation, and systems integration, mostly for Boeing. I spent part of the last 10 years working in the public sector running multiple projects at Ft. Lewis, Seattle School District, Seattle Public Library, Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington, Kent School District, City of Kent, FAA, Woodland Park Zoo and Seattle Center. I also used to design and build PLC controls and integrated conveyor systems and foundry machinery. Sounds like a resume….anyone hiring?

the simple answer is you work for the Air Force, the just of that and more is part of the job describtion for anyone that serves in any leadership role reguardless of branch of service. Thanks for your service, and if you've ever been part of the crew on C130's, C141's, or C17's, may I've jumped out of your plane.

Very interesting thread! As stated previously, it's great to see such a diverse group of people brought together by a shared love of a great little car.
I wish I could say that I'm a multi-million dollar lottery winner and my occupation is "Professional Loaf", but that "plan" hasn't panned out yet.
