heater hoses

Hello ,I have a question hooking up the heater hoses. On my 1982 FI spider-the hose from the head goes to the heater valve and the pipe is connected to the otherside of the heater core.Is this correct? My manual shows the opposite,Im trying to hookup hoses for a 1980 carb.If manual is correct,it will be a stretch to connect the short hose from pipe to the heater valve.???
