#10 fuse controls both horn and radiator fan?

Post by surfingfreeman »

Hi All
I recently had my horn start going off for no reason so I pulled fuse #10 which resolved the horn issue but now it looks as though the temp is running hotter than usual, do the horn and fan share the same fuse on an '82, how difficult is it to fix that horn problem inside the steering column? Thanks a bunch.

For your horn to blow by itself you either have
1) Faulty relay
2) faulty horn button
3) continous contact in between your seering wheel and steering column.

The horn relay should be located on a panel just above the passengers knees (<--others correct me if I am wrong here)
You'll need a test light or better still a multi-meter, the wiring diagram to track down the problem.

A quick test would be to pull out you horn button and remove it compltely, put the fuse back in to see if the horn is activated. If it stops you know your horn button is faulty.
If not put your horn button back as you removed it and then swap or replace the horn relay. If you still have a problem you could be no. 3 where you may have to reove the sterring wheel
At worst case scenario remove your horn relay and leave the fuse in.
See how you go, hope this helps
Cheers David

Thanks much Dave! I believe i narrowed it down to #3 continous contact in between your seering wheel and steering column.
