Re: brake booster unnessacary?
I had my booster go out once. It was very difficult to stop. I don't know what would happen if you intentionally remove it.

Its just fine, lock's em up with no problem. I did get the EBC Yellowstuff pads for my car and they really make her grip harder than the cheap pads that were in the car when I bought it.

"Opinions vary". Braking force increases significantly. I've done a very crude measurement; looks like about 70-90lbs. Put a bathroom scale against the wall (on a stud!) and see for yourself

Yes, I said it is ok to remove it. Maybe if you have a bad knee or something its not a great idea, my very petite wife can lock the wheels up, you just have to be ready for it. You get great feedback without the booster and you can run the sidedraught carbs if you can find a manifold

Re: brake booster unnessacary?
Remove the vaccuum line to your brake booster (which eliminates the boost) and go for a drive. It is not fun.
I was in a Jeep once that lost the booster. With both feet on the brake pedal, I still couldn't stop it. That's not normal, but it does take a lot of effort and gets old quickly in traffic or after a long day.

Re: brake booster unnessacary?
Removing the vaccuum line from the booster did not accurately estimate the force to brake withthe booster actually removed, its a bit easier with the booster gone..,maybe my booster was on the outs though, i dont know how they work and have never had it apart so maybe its not a perfect case study, just in my case?

Re: brake booster unnessacary?
This article is from the Master Power Brakes website, even though it is for American cars the principle is the same, disk brakes need about twice the force to stop compared to drum. The Fiat master cylinder has a small bore, I think smaller than 7/8 inch, the pressure ratings on the chart is from GM type master cylinder with 1 inch or 1 1/8 inch bore. I cleaned up my engine compartment by using a chrome 7 ½ double diaphragm booster with and chrome master cylinder with built in reservoir and 1 inch bore, the mount holes needed to be altered but not much.

If you want to test your system without the booster just disconnect and plug off your vacuum line.
