can't get center upper console back in.
can't get center upper console back in.
Is there a trick to getting the upper part of the center console back in? I get it close and then it feels like it's either hitting something or the wire loom is in the way. Been working on it for about 2 hours and gave up. I installed a newer stereo cd player which was the same dimensions as the old cassette player that someone had installed. 1978 124 spider. Thanks

puting the upper console back in is a trick. the space is so restricted, it doesnt take much to create a problem. watch closely as you slide it in. make sure it isnt hung up on the heater cables. also the dash has an inner recess for the top of the console to fit in.

Thanks, I am going to remove the stereo and try to see what the problem is. There are too many cables and wiring looms not to mention the heater box. It was hard to get out also so I knew it wasn't going to be easy.

When I did this years ago, I couldn't get it back either. I got some wire, and wrapped the wire through the two screw holes. It's held for 31 years.

The stereo is about 1/2" from going in. The wires and cables are in the way and no way to move them without a major change. I am worried if I re-mount the upper half of the console away 1/2" that it may cause issues with the wood lower console cover not fitting properly since it has a lip that slides under the upper?bobplyler wrote:When I did this years ago, I couldn't get it back either.
