Advice for summer seat covers?

Post by wikkid »

I won't be able to get to restore my seats before summer, so I was thinking of temporary covers that would cut down on UV degradation, but would also be perhaps give some relief from the heat of sun-baked leather and vinyl upholstery. Can anyone recommend a decent, basic cover to throw over the original seats that would protect/be less hot?

when i moved to arizona, i discovered the true meaning of 1st degree upholstery burns. I went out and got a set of cheap synthetic cloth , stretchy-type woven seat covers, available in many variations at your local auto parts store. They are comfortable, cool, breath well, inexpensive and ugly. Will definitely be putting a set on my spider

Thanks, summer sun is definitely hot, even in the NE. I'll look into it - I'll bet they come in tan, too.

I put on two big terry towels and they work great; my seats are black and towels too. I fixed their by elastic string to headrests and under seat, so i can put on and take off very quickly.

I agree with TulsaSpider. Had sheepskin on both seats this summer and they were great. Just don't let them get wet.

my father bought me a pair of generic sheepskin seat covers in new zealand, and they were marvelous. warm in winter, cool in summer, and lasted for at least 10 years. i have not been able to find a source in the united states that comes close to the quality of those new zealand sheepskins.

can any aussies comment or provide links?

Probably the only comment an Aussie would make about NZ and sheep is why Kiwi's wear gum rubber boots.

Hey Kent, it is not well known that Australia has twice the amount of sheep as the Kiwis, and that Aussie boundary riders are also taxidermists...lol
