Just got it running and someone hits it

Post by WarbirdAL »

I know this is a spider forum but we love all Fiats right? This is in regards to a cousin of the spider the 124 Special TC sedan.

Someone hit my car and didn't leave a note. This body was in very decent shape. The only rust is surface rust. There wasn't even any rust in the rear quarter panel where the fuel tank sits. I am heart broken. It is driveable but the left fender is all crushed in and part of the driver's door. I imagine there aren't any body parts floating around out there? Need a left fender the door can be fixed.

hi WarbirdAL
My heart goes out to you, that sort of stuff really peeves me off.
Can you post some signs asking for witnesses?
Cheers David

Jerks! I get upset when I see a door ding on my 200k mile daily driver. I'd come unglued if it was on one of my Fiats, no matter what the condition. Hope your insurance company will help get it repaired.

Yours is goat-vomit green, right? Do you have any touch-up paint? Report the hit-and-run to the police, and take some paint samples around to local body shops, offering a reward. That color's unique. Nail that sucker! There's no way damage of that magnitude would be unnoticed by the driver.

Just one more example that although life is good it isn't always fair. My 81 Spider has a dent the size of a golf ball from the bottom corner of an suv door. The wind caught it when an older (that is even older then me) woman was getting out of the rear seat. Nothing like what happened to you AL. Let us know how you make out

Bernie, mine is a dark blue. I do like that green though. saw it every where I looked in the 70's. The damage is to the left fender and part of the driver's door. Man everytime I see it makes me want to cry. Not like it is a super valuable car but it is pretty rare these days.

in all seriousness AL, you might be the first person that has ever said that they liked that color green. officially known as "avocado" per the fiat paint codes, i thought the color was so awful it became a badge of pride.

when i bought the car in eugene, oregon in early 1978, the paint was dirty and the light very diffuse (clouds  ) and it didn't look too bad. then i drove it down to the san francisco area and washed and waxed it in late evening. when i came out the next morning with the sun shining on it, the paint kind of radiated an evil greenness. everybody remarked that the color was just like those early appliance colors that came out when they all stopped being white (the other color was harvest gold).

throughout my experience with the car, people would literally cross the street to tell me either "that looks like my mom's refrigerator" or "dude, no offense, but that color sucks". when people would ask me what i thought about the car, i'd tell them the engine was outstanding, the build quality was good, and that it was a very reliable and practical car and was fun to drive as well. then i'd say, "but the color is a little much" and they would smile and nod their head.

AL, i'm sorry for your troubles. a 124 TC special sedan is not at all valuable, but is exceedingly rare these days.

I feel your pain,Al.Last year just before FFO,a older man in a conversion van took out the side of my Spider.I was sick.I was even sicker when his insurance company didnt accept liability. The guy lied to police and said I hit him!!No witness...no tickets.I put it thru my insurance, and got the car fixed, even though it sat on the show field at FFO looking like a parts car.Recently,my ins. company sent me a check to reimburse me for my deductible. The arbitrator didnt believe his B.S. story. The car will never be the same, even though most people cant tell it was hit. Good luck!!

thanks Craig, the ironic thing about all this is I used to be one of those traffic investigators and before that an insurance adjuster, so I have heard so many unbelievable stories as to what happened. And alas the hand of fate has dealt me the Queen of Spades. But good news, the body shop instructor at the local community college has agreed to help out with his expertise!

There is a special place in hell for someone that does that to a persons car. New car or not, you just dont do that.
