Atlanta Area!Looking for Mechanic/Shop in North Atlanta Area

Post by onlysardegna »

Hello, I am desperately looking for someone in the North Atlanta area who really knows Fiat Spiders and works on them.

I am not quite sure, but it seems Dave Weaver is no longer active!? Right?

Any suggestion and help is welcome.

Thanks much
Mille Gracie

Thanks Digitech,
primarily I am looking to get my breaks working properly and 100%. I am not quite sure, the pads seem to be pretty good still, but this car really needs strong breaking to do anything - And if it then does break it pulls to the side.

Where are you located? I am in woodstock.

Thanks already for the offer.

Ingemar,I am in Blairsville, not too far from you.Dave Weaver is still in business. He has a shop in Buford, and I could track down the number if you need it.I am sure you guys can work out the brake issues, though. We are planning a Fiat ride for sometime in April, probably up here in the mountains.I will let you and Digitech know when we have a firm date,if you want to join in.We had 5 cars for our late fall ride and we had a blast!

ga.spyder! if you can find out daves no for me that would still be great. sometimes it might be easier to not have to ask someone who has to give up his/her weekend for someone else s toy. i will though go ahead and work with digitech on this break issue. (maybe its none? maybe they all feel that way?)

regarding april: let me know. maybe i can make it. i have my folks from germany here though through most of april and also will be doing some business travel. however, would love to know about it.

thanks for your help and answer!

Ingmar,
I purchased a '79 Spider back in December and have spent the last couple of months getting it ready for Spring. I found a shop in Riverdale (just south of the Atlanta airport) called Southside Fiat operated by Allen Lunsford. He's been working on Spiders for 30 years and did a great job of bringing my little car back to life. I believe his prices are fair, especially for the amount of time he spent tinkering. His number is 770-996-4585. He is actually selling a couple of Spiders that he has fixed up that only need cosmetic work. Wish I had found him before I bought mine as it would have saved me some money.

Craig, I have much of the old repair receipts for my car and Dave Weaver's name is all over the place. Would be nice to be able to contact him as well and see if he could give me a little background on the car.

Digitech offer his help to me when I first joined the forum (thanks again, Digitech!). One of these days I'm sure I'll take you up on that offer. :D

I'd certainly be interested in a ride any weekend the 3 of you want to get together. I'm actually thinking of a ride to Dahlonega on Sunday just to get the top off the first time. That is, if I can get the rear brake pads on and the calipers rebuilt tonight...

Hey Rick, thanks for the info re. Southside Fiat.I will contact him to touch base, and maybe steer some business his way.Dave has been around a loooooong time, and has had a lot of health issues. He has a garage at his house, that he is still doing some work out of.The no. is 404-399-7733,and it is near Buford.
Rick,if you decide to make a Dahlonega run ,let me know.I will meet you there and we could do a little cruisin'.I know all the roads up here in the mtns well, and we can run around for a while. If you know in advance,I might get Elial(Smyrna) and kmac(Stone Mtn.) to join in.Or we could wait until next week, and get a ride planned.Either way!!

Rick, thanks much for this contact. Craig told me more about Dave and his situation so its good to have another option just in case. However, little did I know about the selfless willingness to help in this community. I am very happily surprised. Thanks again to all three of you Craig, Russ and Rick!

When I find a day to really get out and cruise around I will be contacting you guys!
Thanks again!

Craig,
I'd definitely be interested in meeting out on Sunday...if I can get out of the garage.

I'm having a rear brake malfunction (http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12885). If I can get it resolved, I'll drop you a message.

My daughter just got accepted to UGA, so I will be spending some time in Athens.Imagine...me ,a die hard Gator fan, with my daughter at UGA  She already took the Tebow posters off her wall! Sorry to hear about the motor.Dave Weaver has had some tough times financially and personally. When he lost the shop in Duluth,he let a basement and back room full of parts get thrown away.We tried to get him to have a yard sale, but he just didnt care.He also let 10 parts cars get towed and crushed.A shame! Anygood mechanic/shop should be able to rebuild your motor. They are very simple.Did you try the guy by the airport earlier in this thread? Southside Fiat 770-996-4585 in Atl. Good luck, and when I am going to be in Athens for a campus visit, maybe I could stop by and look at the car?
