1981 Spider Fi- Home made sticker replacements

Post by SpiderJim »

I know I can purchase the stickers for a low price in the U.S. but I wanted to custom make my own just because I could and have self satisfaction in the process. Another reason is I'm currently at my Canadian home doing the restoration and a $10 sticker will cost me about $60 by the time UPS and the Government get their pound of flesh. I just got dinged $90 by UPS just to process a small package through customs. Unfortunately some mail order suppliers will not use the USPS to Canada.

Build the image in your favorite program then print on photo paper. Let dry then cover the image face with transparent self adhesive plastic. On the back side use a quality double sided tape and get 100% coverage. Cut around the perimeter. Peel off the double sided tape backing and carefully place using your thumb to carefully put in position. The only issue is will they last?? If not at least you can make a replacement.

I'm sure if you look hard enough in the right places you will be able to find some vinyl self adhesive paper that can be printed on.

True, but you still have to seal it with a top vinyl clear sheet...

I like them. They look good from my house. I used some photo paper to copy some maps off my computer for work. They are holding up real well and I didn't laminate them. They should last some time. Keep us updated if they go bad. Thanks

You must use better ink? I have found that unprotected prints are susceptible to moisture and the ink will re-flow if wet. My stickers are exposed to heat, possible rain and my oily grubby hands so I thought best to take the extra step by protecting the surface. It will be interesting to see how they hold up though. Still, for a couple of months I have my own self worth cool factor going on.... Smile... and that makes the effort worthwhile and Brady I know you know what I mean.

If anyone comes up with a decent finished product that they feel will hold up, I am interested in two sets.

Thanks for the compliment Jim.
Does anyone have a link to get stickers for our cars here in the states? I don't even know what stickers should be on the car. Anyone have that?

does anyone know of heat resistant sticker paper thats printable? that sticker looks great. if you made a few you could always throw a new one on easily for a car show. those little details make a car top notch.

You can always get some bumper sticker paper from an office supply store.
Then run it through a laser printer.

Correct and that is what I did. Took ten minutes to cover and install. If anyone needs the two stickers that I have shown in the previous pictures send me a PM and I'll shoot the file to you in PDF format ready to print on photo paper.

This picture is a bit clearer than the one I first listed. Size, info and color are correct for an 81 Fi

If someone has a good straight on photo or a digital file, I can recreate the decals. i own a sign shop and have access to an outdoor durable ink that prints directly to an adhesive backed vinyl....As close to the real thing as you can get. Let me know what you need and I will get you a price.

Update on my stickers. Installed for over a year and still look like the day I installed them.
