gas tank float has liquid in it

Post by WarbirdAL »

did the thing for the fuel gauge, even took out the sending unit. it works fine now may have been a ground issue but before I put it back together I noticed the float itself is mostly full of fluid, I am assuming it is gas. Is it supposed to have liquid in it? I am thinking not.

thanks!

I think I may have answered my question. When I filled the tank up it still read empty and the red light was on. So the float wasn't floating.

thanks, it actually goes to my 124 sedan I picked up. I did scavenge the float from the Spider parts car and it works. That one had just a little fluid in it. I was thinking about drilling a hole in it to drain it. Then I guess seal it up again with something that is gasoline proof?

Someone hit my car today

Post by WarbirdAL »

Of course now that I fixed the fuel gauge someone hit my car and didn't leave a note. This body was in very decent shape. The only rust is surface rust. There wasn't even any rust in the rear quarter panel where the fuel tank sits. I am heart broken. It is driveable but the left fender is all crushed in and part of the driver's door. I imagine there aren't any body parts floating around out there?
