Question. Is it possible to remove the entire exhaust system in one piece from the down pipe to the muffler on a 80FI?
Thanks,
Rick

Re: Exhaust
In a word, no.
the problem child is the rear axle. not far behind is the front crossmember. put the two together and you have mission impossible.

Re: Exhaust
I guess the next question would be why. What are you trying to accomplish? Is the system so old that you will need to cut it out in pieces or are you looking for a quick disassembly? Ray

Re: Exhaust
Ray, a while back I cut the cat out of the exhaust and temporarily installed a flex pipe in its place. Since I didn't have any problems passing the safety inspection without the cat this last time I've decided to weld in a more permanent straight pipe in its place. Right now I have it off of the car from the header to the muffler and figured it might go back in with some creative angles as one piece. I now have to agree with you guys that getting it back in there as a single piece will be just about impossible. I've decided to just weld the straight pipe to the back half of the exhaust, install everything, and clamp and seal both pipes where they meet.
