Okay, we know that's a scam. He's most likely union and doesn't work 14 hours a day.TVST*R wrote:I am still getting emails from him asking for my addy....he is funny, he says he works 7am-9pm on a high rise crane in the UK, but his son is here to complete the deal...very elaborate and koo koo.

Should be easy enough to determine if indeed his son is nearby; ask pops to have him contact you. Meet the son at a coffee shop (you do have those there, don't you? ), and go from there.
eBay certainly has attracted some goofballs since its introduction. On a recent auction, a winner was upset that I threatened to ding her after no payment or contact 5 days after the closing. "I work during the week, and do personal stuff on weekends."
Ditto Craigslist, and even Freecycle, where folks sometimes ask you to deliver items you want to give away

I was selling an 8000 lb Warn winch on Craigslist. Had a call from a guy in London Eng. who wanted me to ship the thing to Nigeria. Right...

Definitely not. Most Europeans are in one union or other and are protected against 14 hour days.Zippy wrote:I hope that's not a slam against union workers.

Re: Ebay Motors...please buy my car
Just this week, I was trying to sell a truck on local Craigslist, and he insisted he wanted it sight unseen, but when I aske him to come over, he said there was no need - just wanted me to prepare for him to pay by paypal. It was very wierd, and this is the last email he sent me when I asked to talk to him first:
"I would have loved to do that but am presently at work now and i cannot
make out calls due to the nature of my job,i work as a sailor and am
presently away on the sea . . ."
I told him to take a walk off the gangplank!
But I am curious how he was going to work this scam... kind of wish I'd followed along a little longer!

Re: Ebay Motors...please buy my car
Some say that PayPal has gone overboard (no pun intended) on the buyer-protection thing. It is my understanding that if a buyer using PayPal has any sort of dispute, PayPal freezes your account ... all of it, not just the amount disputed. So in this case, the unscrupulous buyer would PayPal you the selling price, you'd send him the title, and he would dispute the transaction. All the while having a legal title and bill of sale. Shoot, he could even flip the vehicle by the time you got the dispute resolved.
I always empty my PayPal account as soon as I've been paid.

Haha, me too, but not for the reason you do. It's my slush fund for my Fiat obsession.baltobernie wrote: I always empty my PayPal account as soon as I've been paid.
